Durgavati Devi, also known as Durga Bhabhi, was a notable Indian freedom fighter and revolutionary during the Indian independence movement. She was born on October 7, 1907, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. 

1.Early Life and Marriage

Durgavati was married to Bhagwati Charan Vohra, a prominent member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA), a revolutionary organization. Despite the challenges posed by British colonial rule, Durgavati Devi and her husband were deeply committed to the cause of India's independence.

2.Role in the Independence Movement

Durga Bhabhi played a crucial role in various revolutionary activities. One of her most famous contributions was her involvement in the escape of Bhagat Singh from Lahore after he killed British police officer J.P. Saunders in 1928. She disguised herself as Bhagat Singh's wife, which helped him evade the British authorities. This act of bravery earned her great respect among her peers and the Indian public.

She was also involved in the Kakori Train Robbery, where revolutionaries looted a train carrying government funds to finance their activities. Following the arrest and execution of many of her comrades, Durgavati continued her involvement in the independence movement, working to support the families of imprisoned revolutionaries and keeping the spirit of resistance alive.

3.Later Years and Legacy

After India's independence in 1947, Durga Bhabhi led a relatively quiet life. She dedicated her time to social work and education, setting up educational institutions in Ghaziabad. 

Durga Bhabhi passed away on October 15, 1999. Her contributions to the Indian independence movement remain significant, and she is remembered as one of the courageous women who fought against British colonial rule.
